Zoel A. Sawyer, 73, of Concord, formerly of Westford, Waltham, and Canada, passed away at Emerson Hospital surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 18, 2018. He was born in Minto, New Brunswick, Canada on September 6, 1944. He was the son of the late Clarence and Minnie (Leger) Jaillet and his late brother, Eli Jaillet. Zoel is survived by his two children, Jason C Sawyer and Melissa S. Collins and her husband Eric W. Collins, his granddaughter Mikayla Desroches, his partner Doris Belliveau, and his many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He is predeceased by his wife Mary (Leger) Sawyer.
Zoel was a member of the Canadian Army and when he came to the States in 1964 he joined the Massachusetts Army National Guard. He was hard working and dedicated in all aspects of his life. He was a construction foreman, carpenter, landscaper, and property manager to multiple locations. Zoel was also an avid musician that played in many bands through his entire life, opened for some big acts, and was inducted into The Minto Country Music Wall of Fame a number of times. He was self taught and could play any instrument.
Zoel enjoyed attending Bluegrass festivals, spending time with his family and friends, traveling, riding his motorcycle, playing music gigs, and was not only heavily involved with the
local sportsman club but was enrolled on a pistol firing team. He enjoyed football and hockey,
playing music with his friends, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a youth
soccer coach, Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts for many years and was also a licensed Amateur Radio Operator.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Zoel on April 21, 2018 at 1 pm at the Franco American Club, 55 Prescott Street, Westford, Ma.
