Obituary

William D. Stone, 89, of Concord, died Saturday, April 14, 2012 in Concord. For 65 years, he was the beloved husband of Mary L. (Murphy) Stone. They were married in 1947 in Watertown. Born in Waltham on April 18, 1922, he was the son of the late Raymond and Mabel (Currin) Stone. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1940. During World War II, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the Destroyer USS Foote (DD-511), patrolling areas in the Pacific as part of the Destroyer Squadron 23, "The Little Beavers." At ceremonies in Washington D.C. to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II, he and his shipmates reconnected and thereafter continued to meet annually in cities throughout the country. Following his service in the Navy, Mr. Stone received a bachelor's degree from Northeastern University in Boston and later became a Certified Public Accountant. For several years, he worked at accounting firms in the Boston area. In 1955, he started his own company, William D. Stone and Company, in Waltham. In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by two daughters, Kathleen M. O'Brien and Elizabeth S. Railsback, both of Concord; nine grandchildren, Kerry Cervas, Kimberly Gailun, Kathleen Ramirez, Christopher O'Brien, Brian Weeks, Meredith Railsback, Michael O'Brien, William Stone and Julia Stone; and six great-grandchildren, Riley, Matthew, and William Gailun, and Isabella, Alexandra, and Gabriella Ramirez. He was also the father of the late Christine A. Weeks and William R. Stone. A Concord resident since 1954, he was an ardent sports fan who especially loved the Boston Red Sox. Funeral will be held on Thursday, April 19th from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center, at 9:30 AM followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord, at 10:30 AM. Celebrant of the Mass will be the Rev. Ronald A. Gomes. Interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery Concord, where Sister Rose Marie Lipke will read the committal prayers and officers of the U. S. Navy will present military honors. Concord's town flag will be at half-staff on Thursday in recognition of Mr. Stone's Service to his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II. Service: Funeral from the Dee Funeral Home on Thursday, April 19th at 9 AM followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center at 10:30 AM.
