Obituary

On October 4, William Arthur "Bill" Nockles died peacefully in Sudbury, MA at the age of 94. Bill is survived by his wife Diane, his sister Bette (Suzan) his daughter Elizabeth and his brother's children who reside on the west coast. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Nockles and his brother, John. Bill was born in Lynn, MA on March 6, 1927. He graduated from Lynn English High School in 1945 and enlisted in the army the day after graduation. He spent two years in the army, mainly based in the Philippines. He then returned to Boston to attend Boston University. After graduation from college, he headed to California to teach and then on to Germany to teach for the Department of Defense. Germany is where he met his wife. Diane and Bill were both teachers in the same school. They returned to the US in 1962 to teach in Lincoln, MA. Bill married Diane in 1965 in a ceremony in NH. Outside of teaching, Bill's passion was flying his glider. He could be found most weekends working in the backyard on his airplane, hanging out at the airfield with fellow pilots or flying. No memorial service or funeral is planned. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in his memory to the Soaring Society of America Scholarship funds . Arrangements are under the care of Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
