William H. "Bill" Johansen, of Cambridge, formerly of Lexington and Concord, 84 years young, passed peacefully at home with his family at his bedside on April 4, 2016. He was the dear husband of Susan L. (Cataldo) Johansen, the beloved father of Krista Susan Johansen of Blacksburg, VA., the brother of Margaret Mary MacLeod of Woburn, Dorothy Esther Mullen of Westborough, and the late Thomas Johansen, Ann Parks, Ruth Johansen, Robert Johansen. Bill also leaves behind his brother-in-law Ernest Cataldo and his wife Donna of Boston, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. He was the son of the late William H. and Helen (Mahoney) Johansen.
Bill graduated from the Massachusetts Military Academy for officer training, Army Ranger School, and Boston University, College of Liberal Arts. He was a Major in the MA Army National Guard (Ret.), Captain at Eastern Airlines, a proud member of the Lexington Veterans Association, The Aero Club of New England, the QB's (Quiet Birdmen), the FBI Citizens Academy, and for many years was a Standardized Patient at the local medical schools and a poll worker in Lexington and Cambridge.
He loved his family, aviation, children, the Lexington and Cambridge public libraries, flying to the Oshkosh Air Show with friends, his annual hiking group, and traveling the world with his wife Susan, family, and good friends.
Visiting hours will be held at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center on Monday, May 9th from 3 to 7 pm.
A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 10th at 11 am in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center.
Interment will be private at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne, MA.
