Obituary

William F. "Bill" Burt died on October 4, 2022 at the age of 96 at The Commons in Lincoln, where he resided for the past 12 years.

Bill was born on February 13, 1926 in Newton. He attend Newton High School, where he continued to be active in coordinating reunion activities for the class of 1943 well into his eighties. He attended Tufts University under the V12 program, graduating in 1946 as a Ensign in the US Navy. He retired from the reserves in 1965 as Lt. Commander. Bill brought his considerable analytical skills to bear in a 42-year career at the electric utility know once as New England Gas and Electric Association, now known as Eversource. The years he cherished most were as Chief Electrical Engineer.

Bill married Donna Lou Grunden of Indiana in 1950. The two lived in Lexington before starting a family, where they enjoyed training and showing Belgian Sheepdogs. In 1956, they moved to Lincoln where they raised their children and spent most of their 63-year love affair. Donna succumbed to Alzheimer's Disease in 2014.

Bill was deeply involved in church and community activities. He was among the founding members of the Lexington United Methodist Church, later joining the Weston UMC, where he held many leadership roles over 50 years as a member. He was active in supporting the local Cub Scout pack and Boy Scout troop, spearheaded the Lincoln Town Independence Day parade, served on the boards of the New England Deaconess Association and the New England chapter of the American Red Cross and was faithful in donating blood every eight weeks.

Bill is survived by his son, Wayne "Chip" Burt and wife Debby of Ponte Vedra, Florida, and his daughters, Tracie Wilkins and husband Mark of Epping, New Hampshire and Leslie Bell and husband Charles of Stow, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Above all Bill was a humble and selfless man who exemplified the spirit of God with his love and faithfulness, by serving tirelessly in every element of his life. He was an example to his family and friends of loving sacrifice, of humble service and extravagant love for family, friends and community. His qualities of honesty, industry, ingenuity and drive were evident to all who knew him.

Relatives and friends will gather for Bill's memorial service on Saturday, November 19th at 2 pm in the Weston United Methodist Church, 377 North Avenue, Weston. A private burial service with U.S. Navy military honors will be held at Lincoln Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association ( www.alz.org ).
