Willard G. Sylvester, age 100, formerly of Concord, died at his residence in West Chester, Pennsylvania on Monday, March 15, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Wells) Sylvester who died in 1998. Will is also preceded in death by his parents George Irey Sylvester and Mary Ellen (née Zane), and his brother George.
Will was born in Grove, PA on May 9, 1920. He later moved to Wilmington, DE where he attended P.S. DuPont High School. He proudly served his country during WWII in the Burma-India Theater. Upon his return from the war, he met the love of his life, Dorothy, and moved to Concord, MA where they raised their 4 sons. Will worked for Arthur D. Little for 30 years as a shop foreman. He was most proud of his work on the laser reflector for the space program, which is currently on the moon. Will was a 50+ year resident of Concord, MA and served proudly as a Concord Minuteman.
He is survived by his sons, John (Pat) of Tallahassee FL, Robert (Terry), of Southport, NC, Kenneth (Susan) of Malvern, PA and Edward (Pamela) of Atlanta, GA as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Concord's Town Flag will fly at half-staff on Monday, March 29th in recognition of Mr. Sylvester's faithful service to our country in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Family members will gather privately for a period of visitation in the Dee Funeral Home. All are invited to attend his graveside service on Monday, March 29th at 11 am in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Bedford Street, Concord MA. Officers of the United States Army will present military honors and members of the Concord Minutemen will pay tribute with a musket salute. Click play below to watch the recorded service.
