Obituary

Wanda Jean (Larison) Blanchard, 80, of Concord, died Friday, January 11, 2013 at Emerson Hospital in Concord. She was the beloved wife of the late George W. Blanchard, Jr. who died in 2008. Born in Pierce, West Virginia on May 19, 1932 she was the daughter of the late Joseph K. and Opal (McCray) Larison. She moved to Waltham, MA at a young age, and graduated from Waltham Trade School. After being "dared" by friends, she asked George Blanchard out for a date. They were married in 1951, and they eventually settled in Concord. A longtime Concord resident, Mrs. Blanchard, known as "mom" or "Mrs. B." to many, was a volunteer Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader. For many years, she worked at Rivercrest Nursing Home, where she was adored by both her peers and the residents. She loved country and rock music, especially Elvis. She enjoyed fishing in Maine, watching birds, and singing. She was also an avid reader, and carried books with her everywhere she went. Second only to her family, Wanda Jean's most passionate love was reserved for the Boston Bruins, to whom she was a devoted fan. Survivors include, her sons, George W. Blanchard III of Concord, Wayne P. Blanchard of Maine, her daughters, Shirley A. Blanchard of Concord, Lynn M. Blanchard of Concord and Denise L. Fairbanks-Simpson and her husband David Simpson of Fellsmere, FL, three grandchildren, W. Philip Blanchard and Parker G. Blanchard, both of Maine and Courtney S. Blanchard of Arlington, her sister, Constance Young of Maynard and her brother, Robert Larison of Florida. She was also the sister of the late Gary Larison. Cemetery: Graveside services will follow the visitation on Wednesday, January 16th at 2:15 PM in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Bedford Street, Concord, Massachusetts.
