Walter L.
Van Wart, Jr.
October 25, 1947 – July 19, 2024
Walter L. Van Wart, Jr., 76, of Lincoln, died on July 19, 2024 at Emerson Hospital, after a short illness.
He grew up in Lincoln and attended the Lincoln public schools and Lincoln-Sudbury High School. After graduation, he joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. For his service, he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
Upon his discharge from the Army, he returned home to Lincoln and attended the fire academy. He was a Firefighter for the Town of Lincoln, earning the rank of Lieutenant by the time he retired in 2001. He also worked as a Fire Alarm Technician for Norel Service Co. until retirement in 2022.
He enjoyed golfing until a shoulder injury prevented him from playing. He and his friends Kevin and Richard attended every opening day for the Red Sox, a highlight of his year. He loved spending time in Maine and traveling to Italy and Aruba.
Walter leaves behind his loving partner of 22 years, Elaine Carroll, his children, Melyssa Atwood, Bryan Dagg and Matthew Van Wart, his step-children, Robert and Amy Carroll, seven grandchildren, Olivia, Zachary, Lucas, Kyle, Tobias, Jessica and Alex, his brothers, Richard Aveni, Peter (Mary) Aveni and James (Kim) Aveni, his sister, Sheila (John) Stenner as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Sharon Ann Van Wart, his daughter-in-law, Lea Agostino Dagg, his parents, Walter and Mary Van Wart, and his step-mother, Stephenia "Faye" Van Wart.
Family and friends will gather for visiting hours at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center on Thursday, July 25 from 4 to 7 pm. Walter's Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 26 at 10 am in St. Joseph Church, 142 Lincoln Road, Lincoln. Burial with U.S. Army military honors will follow at Lincoln Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Society of St. Vincent de Paul , P.O. Box 324, Lincoln, MA 01773 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
