Obituary

Walter Joseph Conroy, Jr., of Concord, MA, died at Emerson Hospital in Concord on December 6, 2025, following a brief illness. He was 90.

Born in Waltham on September 21, 1935, he was the son of the late Walter and Margaret (Shea) Conroy, who were immigrants from Ireland. He always remained proud of his Irish heritage. Walter grew up on Hancock Street in Somerville. At the young age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving for three years during the Korean War. At the time of his discharge, he achieved the rank of Sergeant.

During Walter's professional life, he was an Executive for Honeywell before starting his own electronics company. His knowledge and background in engineering qualified him as a pioneer in electronic miniaturization.

Walter was a former member of the Acton Minutemen. He enjoyed his model car collection and listening to the sounds of familiar Irish tunes.

He is survived by five daughters and their spouses, Jean and Dan Shiels, Cheryl and Michael Galvin, Julie and Michael Maas, Laura and Michael Gosselin and Colleen and Dr. Jeff Chapdelaine, along with 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, his siblings, Mary McLellan, Eileen Langille and William Conroy, and several nieces and nephews. Walter was the husband of the late Margaret (Spencer) Conroy and the brother of the late Martin Conroy and Margaret Silveria.

Relatives and friends will gather in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, MA on Saturday, December 13th beginning at 2 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:30 pm, where Officers of the U.S. Marine Corps will present military honors. Burial will be private at a later date.

Concord's Town Flag will fly at half-staff on December 13, 2025 in recognition of Walter's faithful service to our country.
