Virginia Whitney

Virginia (Lombardo) Whitney, age 89, of Maynard, died at Emerson Hospital in Concord on September 1, 2026, while surrounded by her loved ones. She was the wife of the late Neil E. Whitney, Sr. who died in 2004.

Born on October 31, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Vincenza Lombardo. She grew up in Concord as the youngest of eight siblings, graduating from Concord High School in 1954.

Raising a large family was at the heart of her life. Although she held positions outside the home, including her time working for Wee Forest Folk, her proudest role and deepest commitment was as a wife, mother and grandmother. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed reading, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing scrabble and poetry.

She was the dedicated mother of Karen MacLure and her husband Ralph of The Villages, FL, Kristen Kistner of Leominster, Neil Whitney of Maynard, Mark Whitney and his wife Emmy of Acton and Linda O’Connor and her wife Megan of Salem. She also leaves behind ten grandchildren, Jessica Pine and her husband Dave, Kimberly Kingsbury and her husband Mat, Michael MacLure and his wife Christy, Elizabeth and David Kistner, Brianna Whitney and her husband Nate Thomas, Belle and Dylan Whitney, Whalen and Rhett O’Connor, along with four great grandchildren, Kali Ramos, Bill Chase, Layla and Carter MacLure, and a brother-in-law, James Giles of Waltham. She was the mother of the late Michael and John Whitney, mother-in-law of the late David Kistner, and sister to the late Michael Lombardo, Maria Giombetti, Charles Lombardo Jr., Carmella Lombardo, Adelina McGarry, Rose Wallace and Jeannette Giles. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for visiting hours on Wednesday, September 9th from 5 to 7 pm at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. An additional period of visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10th beginning at 9 am in the funeral home, followed by a graveside service in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Bedford Street, Concord at 10 am.

Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
