Virginia (Alling) Bethke, 95, of Concord, died Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Rivercrest Health and Wellness Center in Concord. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur R. Bethke.
Born in Chicago, Illinois on April 7, 1922, Ginny, as she was known to friends and family, was the daughter of the late Carlos and Helen (Metcalf) Alling. After graduating from the University of Chicago, she married Arthur R. Bethke in 1943.
In 1963, Art and Ginny moved to Concord, Massachusetts. Ginny became a re-knowned portrait artist in the community, having painted numerous families, children and even pets. Together with her husband, she played an integral part in the formation of the Bethke Cancer Center at Emerson Hospital. For over fifty years, Ginny actively enjoyed playing tennis and golf at the Concord Country Club. She also enjoyed boating, skiing and playing the piano. Her final years were spent as a resident of Newbury Court in Concord, where she shared a welcoming smile and happy attitude with her many friends and neighbors there.
Survivors include her two sons, Douglas Bethke of Acton and Charles Bethke of Park City, Utah, as well as three grandchildren, Christina, Tyler and Corey and one great grandson, Miles. She will be deeply missed by all. She was also the mother of the late Barbara Bethke and sister of the late Nancy A. Smith.
Services will be private. Burial will be in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord.
