Obituary

Vernon Fenwick Welch, age 90, a proud veteran and longtime resident of Lincoln, died on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late June (Ross) Welch who died in 1990. Born in Somerville on December 29, 1927, he was the son of the late Meldon and Flora (Granville) Welch. A graduate of Somerville High School, Mr. Welch also earned an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Boston University. He entered into U.S. Navy service at the end of World War II. He also honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. While stationed in Japan, he married June Ross, his sweetheart from Somerville, who travelled there to be with him. Mr. Welch had a lifelong love of photography and jazz music. He was active with the Lincoln Jazz Club, and also as a Leader for the Lexington Boy Scouts Troop 193. He is survived by three sons, Gary Welch of Lynn, Alan Welch and his wife Patricia of Shirley, and Dana Welch of Littleton, his grandchildren, Matthew Welch of Charlestown, Andrew Welch and his wife Alicia of Charlottesville, VA, and David Welch and his fiancé Stephanie of Westminster, two great granddaughters, Brenna Casey Welch and Sophie Houle, and many nieces and nephews.. He was the father of the late Gregory Welch who died in 2013. A memorial service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 (www.cancer.org) or the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the care of Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
