Timothy W. Schiefelbein, of Acton, originally from St. Louis, MO, died Saturday, December 30, 2017 at his Acton home. He was the husband of Curran Nachbar Schiefelbein.
Born in St. Louis, MO, on November 30, 1972, he was the son of Wayne H. and Mary C. (Wassilak) Schiefelbein. He attended schools in St. Louis and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1991. He received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri—Rolla in 1995. After graduation he worked at Raytheon Corporation in Denver, Colorado. In 2001, Tim joined the technical staff of MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington, MA. At the time of his death he had risen to Senior Technical Staff. His contributions to many diverse defense initiatives were commended by leaders and peers.
An Acton resident since 2007, he was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hiking, camping, biking, and kayaking. He shared his profound love of the outdoors with his family and friends throughout his life. He was loved because of his kindness, honesty, commitment to relevance, and his humor. To honor Tim, go climb a mountain, hike a trail, paddle a river, ride a bike, plant a tree, launch a rocket, and do your job.
In addition to his wife, Curran, he is survived by two sons, John and Henry Schiefelbein, both of Acton; his parents, Wayne and Mary (Wassilak) Schiefelbein of St. Louis, MO; sister Angela Louis and her husband Chad, sister Christa Ponstingl and her husband Matthew, and brother Andrew Schiefelbein and his wife Christina; his parents-in-law, Robert Nachbar, Jr., and Mary Ellen Finnerty-Nachbar of Titusville, NJ; his grandfather-in-law, Dr. Robert Nachbar, Sr., of Buffalo, NY; two sisters-in-law, Jane Nachbar and Rory Nachbar; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and a niece.
Visiting hours will held on Sunday, January 7th in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 8th at 10 am in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Acton.
