Thomas James Morrissey

Thomas James “Thom” Morrissey of Bedford, Massachusetts, formerly a longtime resident of Concord, MA, died peacefully on September 10, 2026, at the Bedford V.A. Hospital at the age of 78.

Raised in Charlestown, he was the first of seven boys, to Mary and Joseph Morrissey. Thom graduated from Boston Latin School, where he was an All-City, All-Conference basketball player helping to lead his team to the famed Tech Tourney at Boston Garden. Thom competed in the high jump, and was an exemplary student at Latin. Those earlier years as an athlete and growing up in Boston influenced his lifelong love of sports, which extended into his coaching of youth sports as a parent, and perennially rooting for the underdog–in and out of sports.

He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Quartermaster aboard Destroyers USS Sarsfield and USS Forest Sherman, traveling around the world twice during his service. After being honorably discharged, Thom attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst on the GI Bill. He earned his law degree from Suffolk University Law School and an advanced law degree at Boston University. He went on to practice law, with a focus on taxation, and loved the craft of his work. His children would later joke about whether he was ever really retired.

His natural curiosity fed into his well-known extensive line of friendly questioning. Gregarious by nature, he was in his element when making people around the table laugh, while genuinely wanting to understand where things stood for people and how he could help. He enjoyed the give-and-take of a good conversation with people from all walks of life. His enthusiasm to share stories would often culminate in, “You can’t make up a story like that.” He captured the room with his wit, famous one-liners, and well-timed delivery. Upon approaching his wife Linda for the first time, he effortlessly enlisted her by saying, “Let’s dance.”

Above all, Thom was dedicated to his family. “Don’t they know it's a Family Day?” he’d quip should anyone have called the landline phone on a Sunday. Quality time as a family was important to him. He always made time to attend his kids’ sporting events, go on family trips, and loved the tradition of homemade pizza on Saturday nights. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be sorely missed.

Thom is survived by Linda, his beloved wife of 49 years; his three children, Patrick (Karen), Katie (Nimchy), and Meggie (Enrique); and his five grandchildren, Owen, Claire, Jaxon, Francis, and Leo. The oldest of seven sons, he is also survived by his six brothers: Joe, Jack, Paul (Betty), Michael (Donna), Jim (Laura Lynn), and Stephen (Sis).

Thom was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Joseph Morrissey; his uncles John, Thomas, James, and Father John; Aunts Kathleen, Margaret, Gertrude, and Sister Simon; and his nephew Ryan.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a funeral mass on Monday, September 21st at 11:00 a.m. in St. Bernard’s Church at Holy Family Parish, 12 Monument Square, Concord Center. Burial will follow with U.S. Navy military honors at St. Bernard’s Cemetery.

Concord's Town Flag will fly at half-staff on September 21, 2026 in honor of Thom's faithful military service to our country.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Thom’s name to support the Intentional Adult Community at Melmark New England where Thom’s grandson Owen lives and attends school.
