Susan (Swett) Forrester, 92, of Concord, Mass., formerly of Southern Pines, N.C., died on June 18, 2010. She and her husband, Dr. Jay W. Forrester, were married for sixty-four years. Born in Southern Pines (Niagara), N.C., on November 26, 1917 she was the daughter of the late James B. and Rebecca (Allen) Swett. She attended public schools in Southern Pines and later received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she majored in Home Economics. After graduation from college, Susan worked as the manager of a school cafeteria. Later she was employed in the accounting department of the Durham Life Insurance Company in Raleigh, N.C. During World War II, she served in Washington, DC, as a cryptographic analyst. She met her husband at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., where she was working in the payroll office. They were married on July 27, 1946. A resident of Concord since 1952, she was a longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she was an active volunteer in many roles such as helping to organize church lunches. Many people remember her delicious pies. Susan also served on volunteer committees connected with MIT. She enjoyed dancing and loved music in many forms. An avid genealogist, she published two volumes of family history, which are available at the Concord Free Public Library. Above all Susan was a homemaker dedicated to sustaining her husband, raising her children and keeping her relatives close. She was much loved by her family. Her gentle spirit will be sorely missed. In addition to her husband, Jay, she is survived by one daughter, Judith Forrester of Lincoln, Neb.; two sons, Nathan B. Forrester of Boca Grande, Fla., and Ned C. Forrester of Falmouth, Mass.; and four grandchildren, Matthew S. Forrester and Julia D. Forrester of Atlanta, Ga., and Neil T. Forrester and Katherine J. Forrester of Falmouth, Mass. A funeral service will be held on July 9, 2010 at 10 a.m. in Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm Street, Concord, Mass. Susans ashes will be interred in the family burial plot in Southern Pines, N.C. at a later date.
