IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Suki Ann
Macleod
August 25, 1937 – April 28, 2023
Suki MacLeod was born in Korea in 1937, which at that time, was a territory colonized and controlled by Japan. Japan was already at war with China and soon with America. Until 1946 and the wars end, Suki's youth was spent in a strenuous and dangerous period. By 1950, the Korean war broke out and many thousands were attempting to flee the north of Korea controlled by communists to escape to south Korea. This was the infamous 'long march' of hundreds of miles by foot in winter conditions in a war zone. Suki at about age 12 and her mother made that march. Suki's mother died during that journey leaving Suki an orphan.
Suki was adopted by a family in Seoul and lived there until her marriage to Merrill W. MacLeod Jr. in 1967, who was serving in the US Army in Korea. They resided in Concord and then moved to Acton. Merrill passed away in 1992.
Suki was a woman of great strength and although she lost her husband at an early age, she always stayed strong and pushed forward. Suki went on to create Suki and Friends Salon on Main Street in Concord. It was always fun to walk down the street with her, it seemed she knew everyone and she would call herself the Mayor. After selling her shop, she retired in the early 2000. She maintained fluency in Korean which allowed her to be involved with Koreans that wanted to become entrepreneurs .
Suki leaves her sister of Korea, sister-in-laws, Bette MacLeod, Cave Creek, AZ, Deborah Grady, Cave Creek, AZ, Jane Banach of Plattsburg NY and brother-in-law John MacLeod of Gilford, NH. She also leaves nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews located across the country.
Burial at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord will be private.
Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
