IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Stephen M.
Domenichella
December 20, 1969 – July 24, 2024
Stephen "Steve" Matthew Domenichella, 54, of Missoula, Montana, formerly of Lincoln, Massachusetts, left this earthly world too soon on Mount Sentinel in Missoula on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.
He was born in Lincoln on December 20, 1969. He was a Boy Scout, played baseball and hockey, and spent summers swimming and boating. He graduated from Minuteman Technical High School in 1987.
Stephen was born to be a cowboy. He was a true mountain man. The sights, smells, and sounds of nature called his name and he answered by moving to Missoula where he remained until his passing.
Although he lived in Montana for over 30 years, he continued to cheer fiercely, loudly, and proudly for his Boston sports teams. Stephen wore his New England Patriots and Boston Bruins gear no matter where he was.
His family fondly remembers his signature look: a flannel with a vest, jeans, cowboy boots, an ornate belt buckle, a hat, sunglasses, and his infamous goatee.
Stephen was a jack of all trades and he loved to learn. While in Montana, he dabbled in construction and trucking and worked at Harley Davidson, Paws Up Resort, and most recently for the City of Missoula.
Stephen was the son of the late Frank A. Domenichella, Jr. and Margaret "Mags" K. (Lahnstein) Domenichella. He joins them and his beloved cat, Grady, in the next life.
To know Stephen was to love him. He valued family and friendship more than any material possession. He was a free spirit who loved his family and friends, scattered as they were across the world.
Stephen is survived by many and his memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him:
His siblings and their partners, Frank and his wife, Bea, of Leominster, MA; Paul and his wife, Jeanne, of Arlington, MA; Mary (Domenichella) O'Halloran and her husband, Chuck, of Fitchburg, MA.
His nieces, nephew, and their partners, Kate of West Boylston, MA; Maddie of Chicago, IL; Peter and his wife, Chloe, of Dedham, MA; Bekah of Leominster, MA; and Gabbi O'Halloran and her partner, Marcus Whitney, of Fitchburg, MA. Uncle Stephen made every effort to be there for their big life moments. He remembered birthdays, flew out for graduations, celebrated Peter and Chloe's wedding in April 2024, and texted and called them often. Words could not capture his love for them; they felt the same.
His beloved Uncle "Dick", Richard K. Lahnstein, of Lincoln, MA, and Dick's partner, Geneva Smithlin, of Lexington, MA.
His Godparents, John Turano of Bedminster, New Jersey, and Toni (Turano) Cortelyou of Skillman, New Jersey.
He spent holidays with the Ployhars and the Nelsons. He was always down to grab a beer, fish, hike, attend sports games, and hang out. Stephen's East Coast family appreciates his West Coast family for loving him for the past 37 years. Thank you for being his second family. We love you as "Moolie" loved you.
Family and friends will gather for visiting hours on Monday, August 5 from 4 to 7 pm at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, MA. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 6 at 9 am from the Dee Funeral Home, followed by a procession to St. Joseph Church, 147 Lincoln Road, Lincoln, MA for the celebration of Stephen's Funeral Mass at 10 am. He will be laid to rest in Lincoln Cemetery immediately following Mass.
Mount Sentinel was one of Stephen's favorite mountains to hike. At his family's request, and in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Steve's memory are asked to consider a donation to preserve and maintain the "M" Trail on Mount Sentinel above the University of Montana campus. The Friends of the M Trail account is established at the UM Foundation. Donations are tax-deductible and directly benefit the maintenance and preservation of the trail.
Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
All are welcome to gather at the funeral home beginning at 9 am.
