Stephanie Nara Dempsey, 60, a beloved mother and proud United States Army Major veteran died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 25, 2018. She was born in Nara, Japan on February 1, 1957 to her late parents, David and Carolyn Layman. Stephanie graduated from Sam Houston University in Huntsville, Texas. Her honorable military service led to assignments with the First Armor Division in Germany, where she was the first female Unit Commander in 1986. For the past five years, Stephanie served as a Civilian Logistician while residing at Hanscom Air Force Base. She will be remembered as an avid sports enthusiast, and enjoyed refereeing volleyball and softball games for local leagues. Stephanie's memory will be cherished by her two sons, David and Daniel Dempsey. She is also survived by one brother, Mark, and two sisters, Leeann and Rebecca. Relatives and friends will gather for visiting hours on Tuesday, January 30th from 1 to 3 pm in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, MA. Representatives from the United States Army will render military honors at 3 pm. Arrangements are under the care of the Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
