Stanley John Orpik, lifelong Concord resident, WWII Veteran, and Retired Concord Fire Captain, passed away peacefully at Care Dimensions Hospice House on June 6, 2021, following a period of declining health. He was 97. Stanley was the beloved husband of over 63 years to the late Rosemary V. (Meagher) Orpik, who predeceased him in 2011.
Mr. Orpik was born in Concord on May 18, 1924 son of the late Victor and Mary (Melka) Orpik. He attended Concord public schools and was a member of the Concord High School Class of 1943.
A member of the Greatest Generation, Stanley faithfully and honorably served during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations as a member of the United States Army and was Honorably Discharged as a Sergeant in 1945. Following his military service, Stanley worked at Lincoln Labs at Hanscom Air Force Base, before serving the Town of Concord as a Firefighter for over 30 years. He retired in 1981 as Captain.
Stanley was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10336 in Concord, a former member of the Concord Elks, and a member of the Maynard Country Club.
Stanley is survived by his son, Richard C. Orpik of Concord, MA; grandsons Brooks Orpik of Cohasset, MA and Andrew J. Orpik of Boston, MA; great-granddaughters Harlow and Brooklyn; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Rosemary, Stanley was predeceased by siblings Silvia Loring, Virginia Gray, Victoria Boudrot, Julius Orpik, and Ann Whelden.
Family and friends will gather for visiting hours on Friday, June 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. His funeral will be held from Dee Funeral Home on Saturday, June 12 at 8:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center at 9:30 a.m. Burial with United States Army military honors will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Concord.
Concord's Town Flag will fly at half-staff on Saturday, June 12 in honor of Stanley's faithful service in the United States Army and to the Town of Concord.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, Alzheimer's Association, Disabled American Veterans Association, or to Care Dimensions, who provided loving care to Stanley in his final days.
