Sophie A. (Matucieski) DiCicco, age 101, a longtime Concord resident, died peacefully on Friday, October 23rd at her Concord residence with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Romeo DiCicco who died in 2006. They were married in 1937.
Born in West Swansey, New Hampshire on March 2, 1914 she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Alexandria (Schaefer) Matucieski. She was a 1932 graduate of Concord High School.
Mrs. DiCicco was a devout and active parishioner of St. Bernard's Church at Holy Family Parish where she was a longtime member of the Altar Guild and Our Lady's Sodality for which she served a term as Prefect.
For several years, she was a volunteer for Friends in Service Helping (F.I.S.H.) and the Concord Girl Scouts. She served as Den Mother for the Concord Boy Scouts and was a member of the Concord League of Women Voters.
A woman of many talents, she enjoyed gardening, rug braiding, chair caning, and cake decorating. She became an avid golfer after taking up the sport at age 68. Most of all, Mrs. DiCicco was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who always placed her family first.
Survivors include her son, Peter DiCicco and his wife Mona of Acton, her daughter, Elaine DiCicco of Concord, her grandchildren, Stacey Macmillan and her husband Robert of England and Ryan DiCicco and his wife Elizabeth of Marblehead, and her great grandchildren, Georgia Macmillan, Emilie Macmillan, and August DiCicco. She was the sister of the late Sr. Mary Thaddeus Matucieski, CSJ and Tadilius "Ted" Matucieski.
Funeral will be held on Friday, October 30th at 10 am from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 am in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center.
Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord.
Visiting hours are Thursday, October 29th from 4 to 7 pm in the Dee Funeral Home.
