Obituary

Sigrun E. (Hojem) Woodin, age 84, a lifelong Concord resident died Friday May 28, 2010. She was the beloved wife of 36 years of the late David R. Woodin. Born in Concord on September 16, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Martin Hojem and Karine (Kristoffersen) Hojem. She attended Concord schools and was a 1944 graduate of Concord High School. During World War II, she was employed at Raytheon Corporation.A strong, independent, spiritual woman of high integrity with a strong work ethic, she always was available to assist in time of need.A member of the Sons of Norway and West Concord Union Church, she was also a charter member of the Laws brook Road Ladies Club.She supported her husband in founding Concord\'s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, which was later named in his honor, and was a regular participant in the awarding of the annual VFW Student Scholarship.Her hobbies included gardening, birds, nature, quilting and cooking, especially old Norwegian family recipes. She also enjoyed traveling and wintering in Florida with the late William Lonergan and both enjoyed attending bluegrass festivals and concerts. She also loved her frequent trips to Maine to visit with family and friends.She was loving mother of Bob Woodin and his wife Susan of Billerica and Eddie Woodin of Scarborough, ME, dear grandmother of Scott Woodin, Kimberly St. Gelais and her husband Eric, Andrew Woodin, and Nathan Woodin and his wife Lien and great grandmother of Brandon and Connor St. Gelais. She was the sister of Marion Purinton and her husband March of Hudson and the late Robert Hojem.A funeral service was held on Thursday June 3rd in the Farrar Chapel of the Dee Funeral Home, Concord. Interment followed in the family burial plot in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord.In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sigrun\'s memory, in recognition of her love of gardening, birds and nature, may be made to the Concord-Carlisle Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 217, Concord, MA 01742 where an annual scholarship is being established.Arrangements were under the care of Charles W. Dee and Susan M. Dee, Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
