Sidney H. Mayer, Jr., long time resident of the North Hill retirement community in Needham, died on Friday, December 31, 2021 at age 94 following a period of declining health. He was the husband for 57 years of the late Mary Ella (Rayburn) Mayer who passed away in 2010.
Sid was born in Chicago on October 3, 1927. The son of the late Sidney and Clemencia (Bloch) Mayer, he attended public schools in Chicago, before continuing his education at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. He served in the United States Navy as an electronics technician.
Sid began his working career as a professional magician and stage actor. He went on to write professionally and started his own business writing and producing corporate audiovisual communications for a wide variety of clients. He maintained his love for magic and showmanship as a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Society of American Magicians and appearing in community theater.
He leaves behind three children, Sidney Mayer, III and his wife Kathleen of Carlisle, MA, Margaret Mayer and her husband William Belzner of Santa Fe, NM and Maria Mayer and her husband Peter Toluzzi of Oakland, CA, and three grandchildren, Alison Mayer, Jonathan Mayer and Megan Belzner. He was the brother of the late Robert Mayer.
Private family services have been held.
