Sgt. Maureen M. Wesinger-Lewis, of Concord, a member of the Massachusetts State Police 68th Recruit Training Troop and the current Unit Commander of the Massachusetts State Police Mounted Unit, died peacefully at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston on Monday, June 18, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was 55. For 27 years, she was the beloved wife of Lt. William K. Lewis Jr., M.S.P. (Ret.).
She was born in Concord on January 17, 1963, the cherished daughter of the late Ralph and Kathleen (Harrington) Wesinger. A member of Concord-Carlisle High School's class of 1981, Sgt. Wesinger-Lewis subsequently graduated with a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Worcester State University in 1985. She also earned a M.S. from Anna Maria College in 1990.
Sgt. Wesinger-Lewis completed her training with the Massachusetts State Police Academy in 1988. Since then, she has upheld a passionate and honorable career through the M.S.P. as an explosive detection K-9 handler for 17 years at Logan Airport, as a Sergeant with the Narcotics Inspection Unit, and as the current Mounted Unit Commander.
An accomplished dressage rider, she was a Licensed Horse Trainer as well as a Concord Girl Scouts Troop Leader. She coached for Concord Youth Softball, and loved golfing. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina was a place close to her heart, since she enjoyed summer trips there since she was young.
In addition to her husband, she leaves behind her loving daughter, Caitlyn M. Lewis of Concord, her step-children, Jessica L. Straub and her husband Brad of Marlborough and Kevin W. Lewis of Woodstock, CT, two grandchildren, Ayla and Hudson Straub, and one sister, Linda Wesinger of Lowell. She is also survived by many members of the Wesinger/Lewis families, including niece and nephew Alyssa and Nick Wesinger and many friends and co-workers. She was the daughter-in-law of the late William K. Sr. and Theresa Lewis.
Family and friends will gather for visiting hours on Monday, June 25th from 2 to 8 pm in Holy Family Parish, 12 Monument Square, Concord Center. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 26th at 10 am in Holy Family Parish. Burial will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord. Retired and active Officers and Members of the Massachusetts State Police will serve as Honor Guard.
