Secondo Al Sablone, 85, of Concord, died Friday, September 24, 2010 at Walden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Born in Concord on February 7, 1925 to the late John and Davina (Faieta) Sablone, he was the second son of the first set of triplets known to have been born in Concord history. He attended Concord public schools but after Pearl Harbor left high school before graduating to enlist in the armed forces. During World War II, he served as a Sergeant in the U. S. Army Air Corps, 801st 492nd Bombardment Group in England, and received the Bronze Star. For his distinguished service he was in 2001 awarded a diploma from Concord High School, Class of 1943, an achievement recognized by an Official Citation of the State Senate of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
A longtime resident of Concord and graduate of the Massachusetts Police Academy in Lowell, he served for 25 years as a member of the Concord Police Department as a patrolman, juvenile officer and inspector. He was a member of the Concord Knights of Columbus and served as a Deacon to Saint Bernards Roman Catholic Church. He was a talented musician well regarded for his singing and accordion playing with local bands who performed at the Colonial Inn and the Fairway. He was also well known for his entrepreneurial work, especially for his pizza truck and his pioneering work in recycling industrial metals.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Carole Gnatowski of Lincoln and Deborah Brown of Concord; 1 grandchild, Philana Mia Gnatowski of Lincoln; 1 brother, Terzo George Sablone of Concord; and 8 nieces. He was the brother of the late John, Rico, Primo, Ida Spinelli, Frances Faieta and Algisa Columbo.
Visiting hours will be held at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center on November 12, 2010 from 6 pm to 8 pm.
