LINCOLN - Sau Lan Ho passed away on June 22nd, 2020 peacefully in her sleep. She leaves behind her devoted husband - Kam Shing, her loving children - Shuk Mei, Yuk Hai, and Joyce, her sons-in-law Tom and Bing, her daughter-in-law Monica, and many other family members.
Sau Lan was born in Hong Kong in a family of 10, which she helped to sustain through World War II. After the war, she briefly worked as a salesperson for Modern Fabric Company, where she was proud to be a star salesperson on the floor of the shop. She married Kam Shing, the love and joy of her life, in 1950.
Her love is felt deeply by all of the children she and Kam Shing raised together-- including her own children, grandchildren, as well as many of her brothers- and sisters-in-law who she welcomed into her home in Ma Tau Wai (馬頭圍) and later Tin Kwong Rd (天光道). Sau Lan's dining table was the center of her family. She nourished them with the delicious food she cooked and kept them warm with the clothes she would often spend all night crocheting, knitting, and sewing by hand.
As a devoted member of the Methodist Church in Hong Kong, Sau Lan expressed a deep commitment to caring for those in need. She would regularly check in on and bring food to disabled and elderly community members through mutual aid efforts and volunteer programs, both in and outside of the church.
Sau Lan also loved to ballroom dance. She learned long-form, traditional Tai Chi, which she practiced well into her 70s.
In 1986, Sau Lan made a new home in the U.S. at the age of 54. She was a longtime resident of Lexington, MA, where she raised many of her grandchildren and learned to incorporate local ingredients into her repertoire of Cantonese recipes.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. - 12 noon at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, MA on Friday, June 26.
