Sarah Bartlett Jones, formerly of New York City and Harrington Park, New Jersey, passed away peacefully in Concord, Massachusetts on July 6th, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Raised in New York City, Sarah attended both The Brearley School and The Chapin School which led to a B.A. in art history from Smith College. Later on she earned a Master of Arts degree from New York University–Institute of Fine Arts.
During her lifetime, she wore a number of hats but none was more important than being a wonderful mother to her two sons, Christopher and Philip, and a loving wife to her husband Richard. Professionally, she worked for New York State University as an art history teacher and slide librarian; the Nelson A. Rockefeller Art Collection as an assistant to the curator; Noyes Publishing as an editor of scholarly books on art history; and Wittenborn Art Books of New York City as an art books buyer. Finally, later in life, she worked as a self-employed antiques appraiser specializing in oriental rugs.
Sarah also found time for volunteer work with such organizations as St. Andrew's Episcopal Church of which she was a member for over thirty years, the Harrington Park Historical Society, the Harrington Park Public Library, and the Harrington Park Public School where she developed an art education program for grades kindergarten through eighth.
She loved art; music; singing; church; family; old friends; St. James, Long Island; and Sandwich, Massachusetts.
Sarah was predeceased by her sister Phyllis and husband Richard and is survived by her two sons, Christopher and Philip; their wives, Jenny and Jackie; and her four grandchildren, Carter, Lysbet, Holly, and Trevor.
Right to the very end of her life she identified herself as Sarah from New York and made it known she was a "lovely lady." Indeed she was.
A private burial with family will take place at a later date.
