Brooke was born in Newton, MA, and spent her childhood in Weston and Brookline, MA, where she graduated from Brookline High School. She attended the University of Chicago for two years and received her BA degree from New York University with Honors.

She then moved to Brooklyn, NY, where she was employed at Barnes & Nobles Bookstore.

Her death on May 9, 2024 from heart failure was a shock.

She will be missed by family, friends and former co-workers. She leaves her father, Donald W. Lashley and wife Patricia of Concord, MA, and a brother, Peter Lashley and wife Aubrey of California. Her mother, Averil, predeceased her.
