Obituary

Sara (Colegrove) Sharp, 80, a resident of Newbury Court in Concord, formerly of Arlington, MA and Indianapolis, IN, died peacefully in her sleep at Rivercrest Nursing & Rehab Center in Concord on January 7, 2022. She was the beloved wife of John D. Sharp, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. She was born on August 5, 1941, as the daughter of the late Andrew Colegrove, Jane (Lathrop) Kinney and stepdaughter of the late Thomas Weir. Sara was raised in Mystic, CT, and graduated from Williams Memorial Institute. She completed an undergraduate degree in home economics from the University of Connecticut, before earning a Master of Public Health from the University of California at Berkeley. Having been diagnosed with Diabetes as a young teenager, Sara focused her graduate degree with a specialty on food and nutrition. She managed the disease carefully and with grace throughout her life. Her time at UC Berkeley also introduced her to John, her husband and soul mate. The couple wed on June 18, 1966 in her hometown of Mystic. Sara enjoyed raising a family as a devoted and nurturing mother. She took special pride in actively participating in her sons' lives, particularly volunteering at their school and assisting them on various projects. Her interest in family history led to extensive genealogy research over the years. Sara was also a former member of the Professional Society of Public Health Workers, American Dietetic Association, and a longtime supporter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. In addition to her husband, she will be greatly missed by two loving sons, Clifford Sharp of Arlington and Kenneth Sharp and his wife Susan of Haverhill, three grandchildren, Andrew, Daniel and Nathan Sharp, her sister, Suzanne Gally of Concord, along with several nephews and their children. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sara's memory may be made to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116 (www.diabetes.org) or or National Alliance on Mental Illness of Massachusetts "NAMI-MASS", (www.namimass.org), 331 Montvale Avenue, 2nd floor, Woburn, MA 01801. Arrangements are under the care of Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
