Obituary

Sally Swift Fay, of Exeter, NH, former longtime resident of Concord, MA, died on May 14, 2021 at the age of 91. Sally was born in Mount Vernon, NY on March 29, 1930. She grew up in Pelham, NY and graduated from Bradford Junior College with an associate's degree in 1950. She worked in the New York City fashion industry for B. Altman's Department store and Mademoiselle magazine. In New York, she met her future husband, medical student Gardner Francis Fay. The couple married on June 4, 1953, and shared 53 years of loving marriage until his passing in 2006. She was a Concord resident from 1959 until 1995, when she relocated to New Castle, NH and subsequently, Stratham, NH. For the past eleven years, Sally has been a resident of Riverwoods in Exeter, NH. Sally will be remembered as a lifelong, devoted volunteer. Her selfless service to others included countless hours at Emerson Hospital in Concord, past Chair of the local chapter of the Massachusetts Red Cross, a Docent for the Museum of Fine Arts where she was also active in the Ladies Committee and as a Senior Associate for Art in Bloom, Friends of New Castle Library, and Deacon-New Castle Congregational Church. Sally remained active into her later years, which included playing tennis and paddle tennis. Along with her husband, she was an avid birder and cross-country skier. She enjoyed the beauty of winter months, as well as hosting family and friends over the years on Sanibel Island, FL and St. Simon Island, GA. Her memory will be cherished by her children, Cynthia Fay Nuzzo of Brookline, MA, Richard Gardner Fay of Exeter, NH, John Fay of Cumberland Foreside, ME, and Stephen Fay of Waterville Valley, NH, ten grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, a sister, Nancy Swift of Brooksby Village in Peabody, MA, and a sister-in-law, Dorie Fay of Falmouth, ME. Family members will gather for a private burial service at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one's choice. Some of Sally's favorites include Museum of Fine Arts, 465 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 021150 and Spencer Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Riverwoods, 5 Timber Lane, Exeter, NH 03833. Arrangements are under the care of Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
