Ruth Eleanor Thran Wittman Forinash, 94, passed away on September 27, 2015 at home, surrounded by her family on the day of full super moon in Aries and a total lunar eclipse. She was born on April 9, 1921 in Philadelphia, and lived in Fairmont, West Virginia; Munich, Germany; Ft. Benning/Columbus, GA, and had resided in Concord, MA for the past 24 years.
She was predeceased by her biological parents Richard Cephas Thran and Edith Kibblehouse, her adoptive parents Fred and Clyde Wittman, her spouse Kyle Forinash Jr., her twin brother Richard Cephas Wittman and his spouse Rowena, her sister Marion Thran Gibson and her spouse Pete.
While in West Virginia Ruth worked for the Monongahela Power Company where, as a home economist, she taught cooking schools and helped rural people learn how to use electricity and electric stoves in the 1930s and 40s.
She told stories about having to reassure people who worried about electricity leaking out of the wall outlets, as they thought that it would leak like water from a faucet. She gave up her burgeoning career to marry and raise her children.
She was an excellent cook and homemaker and was affectionately known as "Nana Ruth" by several generations of children. She took up painting in her 50s and was well known for her handcrafting, especially for quilting, making crocheted Christmas angels, and eggshell ornaments.
She continued to be an active quilter and crafter up until her death in spite of macular degeneration and hearing loss.
Nana Ruth is survived by her daughter Dr. Michele Forinash and her partner Lisa Kynvi of Concord, MA, and grandchildren: Adele, Kylene, and Mariele Forinash Aziz of Concord with whom she lived for the past 24 years; her son Dr. Kyle Forinash and his spouse Miriam of Louisville, KY, and their children Matthew Griffith and his spouse Lisa Inks of Washington, DC; Jillian Griffith Kordus and her spouse Kalani and great grandchildren Olivia and Valentine of San Francisco. She is also survived by her former son-in-law Michael Aziz of Concord; her sister Julie Eisenhower and her spouse Elmer of Mechanicsburg, PA as well as wonderful nieces and nephews around the world.
