Obituary

Ruth (Ord) Campbell, 93, of Concord, formerly of Weymouth, died Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton. She was for 69 years the beloved wife of Roger W. Campbell. Born in Lawrence on August 17, 1922, she was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Bernie) Ord. She attended Lawrence public schools, graduated from Lawrence High School in 1940 and from Miss Fays Secretarial School in Boston in 1942. Her first job was working as the Secretary to the President of Watson Park Company in Boston. For many years, prior to her retirement, Mrs. Campbell was an Executive Secretary for Manpower® Inc. in Boston. During her employment she worked as the secretary to the President of the Boston Whaler Corporation in Norwell, MA, executive secretary at the Corcoran Real Estate Company in Quincy, MA, and as Administrator for the Quincy Police Department SPAIS Program. She resided in Concord for the past eleven years, most recently at Concord Park. In Weymouth she was a longtime member of the Old South Union Church where she was Parish Secretary during the 1960's. She enjoyed playing the piano, cooking, bowling, cross-country skiing, was a voracious reader and was a member The Great Books Club. A gifted writer, she penned a prodigious volume of letters over her lifetime, keeping family and friends well connected. She was above all else a devoted mother to her three sons and an unwavering, loving wife to her husband Roger. During their retirement she and Roger traveled extensively with the Elderhostel program (now Road Scholar) throughout New England and to wider destinations like Alaska, Hawaii, and Ireland. In addition to her husband, Roger, she is survived by two sons, Bruce A. Campbell and his wife Danette of Warrenton, VA, their children, Randee, Jodi, Sara and Erin, and Jeffrey S. Campbell and his wife Ellen of Concord and their children, Caroline and Grace. She was pre-deceased by a son, Donald W. who was the husband of surviving wife, Diane B. and their daughter, Sarah, of Bristol, RI. Surviving nephews and nieces are Jack Ord, Maureen Voisine, Donald Ord, Leslie Daniels, Susan Lavigne, Christine and Kenneth Campbell, plus many great nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm St. Concord, MA (978) 369-3715. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
