Rose Mary McMurtry, 97, of Dennis, formerly of Lincoln, died April 7th at Concord Healthcare in Concord. She was the beloved wife of the late G. Carleton McMurtry who died in 1972. Born in Boston on October 28, 1915 she was the daughter of the late Frederick W. and Mary A. (Rose) Meagher. She attended Secretarial School in Boston. During the 1930's, Mrs. McMurtry worked at the State House in Boston for Governor James Michael Curley. After marrying Carleton she lived in Cambridge in the 1940's and 1950's raising a family and actively supporting the Blessed Sacrament Church where, with her professionally trained voice, she was the lead soprano in the choir. From 1958 until 1972, Mrs. McMurtry was a resident of Lincoln. She sang in the choirs of St. Bernard's Church in Concord and St. Joseph's Church in Lincoln. For many years she was the director of the girl's choir at St. Joseph's Church in Lincoln and was an active member in the Lexington Choral Quartet. She was also an active member and past president of the Proparvulis Club of Boston. After Carleton died in 1972 she moved to her longtime summer home in Dennis, MA. Survivors include 3 sons, George C. McMurtry and his wife Ann of Beaufort, SC, Robert A. McMurtry and his wife Paula of Dennis, MA, and Douglas F. McMurtry and his wife DeLynn Walker of Amherst, NY, 5 grandchildren, Katherine, Brian and Connor; Karee and Jared, and 4 great grandchildren, Kaitlin and Quinn; Hillary and Charlee Rose. Sister of the late Frederick, James, and Mary Meagher. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday April 14th from 3 to 7 pm at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, CONCORD CENTER. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Lincoln Road, South Lincoln on Monday April 15 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln.
