Ronald J. Catella of Littleton, a Concord resident from 1969 to1981, died Monday, March 21, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Mr. Catella was born on Staten Island, New York, April 22, 1936, the son of Louis J. and Marie (Riche) Catella.
He attended Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary School and graduated from Curtis High School, was then appointed to the US Merchant Marine Academy at King's Point, L.I. After a graduate degree from SUNY Delhi where he majored in Construction Technology, he pursued a long career in Construction Management with AT&T, Harvard University, Colonial Williamsburg and MIT. After retirement, he spent time consulting for Commodore Builders. He was named Distinguished Alumnus from SUNY Delhi in 2008 for Construction Technology and Management.
In Littleton, he was a member of the Permanent Municipal Building Committee. He was an avid sailor and also loved flying and Nature.
His last building "project" before becoming ill was to oversee the construction of an addition to First Parish in Concord, where he was made an honorary member.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley (Eddy) Catella, 2 daughters, Nanine DiGiovanni of Concord, and Lisa Catella of Somerville, one son, Ricci James Catella of San Francisco, CA. and 5 very special grandchildren; Christina, Maxwell, Nicholas, Adrian and Andrew, one sister, Diane Iandiorio of Cooperstown, NY and several cousins including Robert Hilsinger of Concord.
The family invites all to a memorial service celebrating his life to be held on Friday, April 22nd (his 75th birthday) at 2 PM in the First Parish in Concord, 20 Lexington Road, Concord Center. All are welcome.
Interment will be private.
