Roger Alan Fricke, 81, died at Meadow Green Nursing Center in Waltham, MA on Thursday, August 24, 2023. He was the loving husband for 53 years of the late Sarah Winifred (Benton) Fricke, who died in 2019.
Roger was born on March 9, 1942 to his late parents, Rev. Charles Henry Fricke II and Helen Josephine (Holzhauer) Fricke. He was born in Blantyre, Malawi, when his parents were missionaries during World War II. He spent the majority of his youth growing up in Stamford, CT. He graduated from Baylor University, earning a B.A. in Business Administration. After college, Roger served our country in U.S. Naval Intelligence. During his tour of duty in Vietnam, he interpreted aerial photographs for strategic action. He was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal at the time of his honorable discharge in 1965.
He married Sarah, the love of his life, on February 10, 1967. The couple settled in Paoli, PA where Roger founded his own equestrian-supply company. He enjoyed the places that he saw while travelling for his business, following college football, particularly the Baylor Bears, and fishing in his spare time.
He is survived by his daughter, Gretchen M. Grant, his son-in-law, Jason B. Grant, and his granddaughter, Clara M. H. Grant of Concord, MA; his brother Charles H. Fricke III and his sister-in-law Diana L. Fricke of Anchorage, AK; his brother Jonathan E. Fricke of Mount Juliet, TN; his niece and nephews, Chips H. Fricke of Anchorage, AK, Heather Fricke Royston of Murfreesboro, TN, and Jonathan B. Fricke of Pearland, TX; and his lifelong friend James E. Hixon of Lake Charles, LA.
Roger's family will gather privately for his burial service with military honors at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The Nature Conservancy.
Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
