Roberts Lars Apse, fondly known by some as "Robs", of Sudbury, MA passed away on August 6, 2022 surrounded by his family, after courageously fighting cancer.
Roberts was born on May 3, 1971 in Boston, MA and was the beloved son of Astrida and Ivars Apse of Sharon, MA. Roberts grew up alongside his two sisters, Kristina and Ingrida whom he was eager to entertain and occasionally ruffle but always in joy never in malice. Since his roots were Latvian, Roberts grew up in a home which recognized its best traditions of language, food, music and holiday celebration. His upbringing by his "Mam" and "Paps" was centered upon family, both immediate and extended. Frequent visits and gatherings for a myriad of occasions forged strong relationships with his grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins and created so many memories. He also deeply cherished his childhood friends and considered them to be part of his family.
Roberts earned his undergraduate degree in English at UMASS Amherst where he took advantage of many opportunities to explore new experiences including crew, DJing for the local student radio station, and taking extracurricular classes such as theater. He was someone who could strike up a conversation with anyone and entertain them with his natural comedic timing and impressions.
It was at UMASS that he met the love of his life, his wife Heather, and won her over with his vibrant personality and his love of family. The couple dated throughout college and into early adulthood when he worked for numerous companies. He was an eloquent sales professional that leveraged his innate ability to win people over. He became a dedicated sales manager for over 15 years in the life science industry and was most proud of the team he led.
Roberts and Heather married in 2003 and settled in Sudbury, MA where they built a family together. They succeeded spectacularly when they welcomed the pride and joy of their lives, their 3 children, Nikolas, Lars, and Aleks. He continued to be her best friend and the most supportive of husbands. His family was his core joy and nothing could bring a bigger smile to his face than his sons or "dēli" as he affectionately called them. He had an uncanny ability to make even mundane daily activities so much fun. He made time to make special memories and show his family lots of love and strength through both joyous and challenging times. Roberts was a proud "Papa" and he was happiest when he was spending time and playing with them.
In addition to his loving wife Heather (Garland) Apse, Roberts will be missed by his three children, Nikolas, Lars, and Aleks. He will also be missed by his parents Astrida and Ivars Apse of Sharon, MA; his sister, Kristina (Apse) Carrier, her husband Brent, and their children Elizabeth, Andrew, and Caroline of Larchmont, NY; his sister, Ingrida (Apse) Sreda, her husband Stan (whom he called his brother), and their children, Theadeus and Hugo of Sharon, MA. He will be deeply missed by extended family and friends.
Roberts greatly favored smiles over frowns. With a twinkle in his eye and a funny quick-witted comment he could dissipate tension in a situation or spice up a conversation. He possessed a vast repository of and could recall even obscure memories, movie quotes and interesting facts to enhance the best of conversations. He was passionate about music, especially The Doors. He loved spending time outside and never stopped experiencing nature through hikes, bike rides, basketball, snowmobiling, lake cannonballs, or yard work. Heather would joke that his favorite hobby was raking. He made people feel at ease and truly appreciated people and the simple everyday things as gifts, especially loving a good sandwich made by the hands of someone he loved. Everyone who knew Roberts cherished his positivity, sense of humor, and his contagious energy. His impact has been profound and he will be missed forever.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Monday, August 15th from 5 to 8 pm at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, MA.
