Robert T. Sanford, Jr. of Concord Mass., formerly of Lexington, Harwich, and Burlington Mass., passed away on April 7, 2013. Funeral Service will be held Thursday April 11, 2013 at 1 pm at the Duvall Chapel, 80 Deaconess Road, Concord, MA, next to Emerson Hospital. The service will be followed by an interment at the Knoll, which is located approximately 1/2 mile east of the Sleepy Hollow main cemetery on Bedford Street (Route 62), past Concord center. Bob enjoyed a long career as an engineer for the New England Telephone Company, including years of consulting after retirement. During World War II, Bob served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1943 to 1946 in the Philippines, Okinawa, and New Guinea. Bob graduated from Harvard University, class of 1945, after graduating from Belmont Hill School in 1941. He was born on May 8, 1923. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha Riley Sanford, whom he married on June 7, 1947, and who resides in Concord, Mass. He will be deeply missed by his four children, Jean Careno, of Dover NH, Elizabeth (Betsy) Gustin of Sudbury, MA, Nancy Walton of Burlington MA, and Jeffery Sanford of Ann Arbor, MI. He is survived by his 9 grandchildren: Nick, Ben, Randy, Kimberly, Kelley, Jimmy, Natalie, Gabby, and Bobby.
