Robert R. Leland, 83, of Groton, formerly of Concord, died peacefully on Saturday, July 2nd at the Apple Valley Center in Ayer. He was the husband for 41 years of the late Harriet A. (Hubbard) Leland who died in 2009.
Born in Woburn on July 16, 1932, he was the son of the late Melvin A. Leland and Grace (Emery) Leland.
After graduating from Stoneham High School, he honorably served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1951 until 1955.
Mr. Leland later attended Northeastern University and Boston University where he received an undergraduate degree in Engineering.
He was employed for several years as an Engineer for Raytheon and Megapulse in Bedford. Over the course of his career, he traveled extensively to locations including Egypt, China, and South Africa. One of his professional concentrations focused on LORAN transmitters.
After retiring, he remained active and enjoyed to golf. A devoted family man, he adored the time he spent with his loving children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughter, Diane Grace and her husband John of Concord, his son, Robert Leland of Groton, his grandchildren, R.J. Leland of Groton and Jack and Shawn Grace, both of Concord, and his sister, Ruth Layton and her husband Dave of Tucson, AZ. He lost two brothers, Warren and "Freddie" who we're killed in action in WWII. Other deceased brothers include, Douglas, Harold, Arthur, Chester, Marshall, Everett, Vernon and Kenneth and his sister Bernice.
Private burial was held at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord.
Arrangements are under the care of the Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
