Obituary

Richard John Mullins, 87, of Concord passed away peacefully on March 19, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Brooklyn, NY on November 20, 1930 he was the son of the late Elizabeth (Kelly) and Patrick Mullins. An Air Force Veteran, while serving in the U.S. Air Force, he was selected to the U.S. Forces Europe World Championship 4 man Bobsled Team and was a baseball Pitcher for the U.S. Air Force baseball team; and played professional baseball for the Washington Senators as well as the House of David teams. Dick graduated from Boston University in 1960 and was a teacher and coach in the Lexington Public Schools for 41 years. An active community member, he served on many town committees and was the Founder and Director of Heritage Pool & Racquet Club in Concord. He was the longtime Director of Camp Sewataro in Sudbury. Beloved husband of Anna (Ricciardelli) Mullins and devoted father to Betty Ann Killian and her husband Michael of Concord, MA, Laura Mullins of Carlisle, MA, Kathleen Pugh and her husband Frank of Hollis, NH, and Rick Mullins and his wife Perdy of Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Proud grandfather to Meghan and Matthew Killian of Concord; Richard, Carly, and Jillian Chelton of Carlisle; Sarah, Anna Kate and Franklin Pugh of Hollis, N.H.; and Max and Ivy Mullins of Cape Elizabeth, Maine. He is also survived by his sister in law Eileen Mullins and Ellen Ricciardelli; and brother in law Anthony Ricciardelli. He is predeceased by his sisters Geraldine Tyrie, Dorothy Tormey; and brothers Edward Damore, Patrick Mullins, Lawrence Mullins and George Mullins. Loved and cherished by many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday March 22nd from 3 to 8 pm at the Dee Funeral Home 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Funeral will be held Friday March 23rd from the Dee Funeral Home at 9 am followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center at 10 am Interment with military honors will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord. Concord's town flag will fly at half-staff on Friday March 23rd in recognition of Mr. Mullins's service to his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
