Richard "Rick" J. Martin, 60, of Stow, formerly of Newton, died on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Emerson Hospital in Concord, following a brief and valiant struggle with cancer. He was the devoted husband for 26 years of Julie (Snowden) Martin.
He was born on June 22, 1958. His parents were Louis Martin Jr. of Dennis and the late Carole (Leone) Martin. Rick was raised in the Nonantum village of Newton, and graduated from Newton North High School in 1976.
Rick's love for drumming began at an early age. He was a talented percussionist who was affiliated with several rock bands throughout his life, including Pastiche, Third Rail, B-Sides and AutoPilot Down. Rick's other passion was food, and during his life, he achieved a major goal of opening his own business, Leone's, located in Acton. He also co-owned and operated The Barking Pig in Chelmsford.
In addition to his wife and father, Rick will be deeply missed by two loving sons, Jesse and Greg Martin, both of Stow, his siblings, Louis Martin III of Nashua, NH, his former wife Kristin and their three children Alyssa, Jeff and Kimberly, and Julie Joyce, her husband Michael Sr. of Harwich, their boys, Michael II and his son Brayden and Cammeron, as well as multiple extended family members.
Relatives and friends will gather for his funeral Mass on Friday, January 4th at 10:30 am in Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, 573 Washington Street, Newton, followed by a reception in the parish hall. Private burial at Newton Cemetery will be held at a later date.
