Obituary

Richard B. Marshall, 77, founder of Marshall Farms and a lifelong Concord resident, died at home, surrounded by family, on Thursday, July 5, 2018. He was the husband of Betty Whitcomb and the late Diane (Engebretson) Marshall. Born in Cambridge on May 7, 1941, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Perry) Marshall. In the seventies, he and his wife, Diane began their own business, and opened Marshall Farms on Harrington Avenue in Concord. He had an incredible work ethic throughout his years on the farm, and often worked seven days a week, around the clock to ensure that the business continued to thrive. He enjoyed growing numerous fresh vegetables as well as beautiful cut flowers. Customers knew him as a friendly face when visiting the farm stand, and he took great pride in lending his expertise about beginning and maintaining a healthy garden. For over thirty years, he spent winters in Hobe Sound, Florida. In addition to his wife, Betty, he leaves behind two children, Richard Marshall, Jr. and Deborah Sullivan and her husband Patrick of Concord, NH. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jackie Marshall of Ayer, MA, Richard Marshall III and his wife Ashley of Concord, MA, Jenn Marshall Hart and her husband Derek of Nashua, NH, and Jack and Katelyn Sullivan, both of Concord, NH, three great grandchildren, Brendan Marshall of Ayer, and Emma and Hannah Marshall, both of Concord, MA, and two siblings, Florence Carreiro of Concord, MA and James Marshall and his wife Doris of Maynard, MA. He was also the brother of the late Edith O'Leary and Geraldine Marshall. Family and friends are invited to gather for visiting hours on Thursday, July 12th from 6 to 8 pm in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. He will be buried during a private family service on July 13th at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord. Arrangements are under the care of Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
