Obituary

On the evening of Friday, September 18th, Richard M. Glasberg of Concord passed away after a long battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). He was 55. He leaves behind his daughters, Samantha M. of Austin, TX and Anna L. of Boston, MA; his brother, Stuart; and many loving friends. Richard Glasberg was born in the town of Lexington, MA on September 21st, 1959. He was the first son of Martin and Lucille Glasberg, and older brother to Stuart. Richard was a veteran lifeguard at both the Lexington Reservoir and Wingaersheek Beach; he shared his love of swimming with his daughters on their vacations to the Cape and Aruba. After attending a private high school, Richard found his life long passion in the world of technology management. He started with the Information Department of Technology for the state of Massachusetts in the early 90's, pioneering the Commonwealth's MagNet network. "Technology keeps people challenged," he is quoted as saying in 2003, "Training isn't enough…[a]void pegging people in a hole and making them work all the time on what they know. It's an easy trap to fall into, giving ever more database projects to the database experts." Mr. Glasberg spent his free time working on his 1974 Pontiac GTO, a testament to his passion for cars and DIY-ing. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, golfing, and spending time with his family. He shared his passion of food (and eating) with his girls, dedicating each Friday to making pizza and encouraging them to help him cook. His sense of humor and passion for life were often reserved for his family and friends, whom he made a deep impression on with his frequent Arnold Schwarzenegger quotes and encouragement to "always drive it like you stole it". Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, September 22nd at 5:30 pm in the Farrar Chapel of the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Contributions in his memory may be made to the ALS Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 315 Norwood Park South, 1st Floor, Norwood, MA 02062. Arrangements are under the care of the Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
