Obituary

Richard Leo Flynn, 86, of Westford, formerly of Concord, died Monday April 25, 2016 at his Westford home. He was the husband for 60 years of Phyllis (Shattuck) Flynn. Born in Concord on September 17, 1929 he was the son of the late Richard and Margaret (Loftus) Flynn. He was a 1947 graduate of Concord High School. During the Korean Conflict, he served as a PFC in the U.S. Army. Mr. Flynn retired in 1991 from the Concord Light Department after many years of employment in various Departments with the Town of Concord including the Light, Highway, Tree and Natural Resources Departments. He enjoyed collecting and restoring old tractors, attending flea markets and tractor shows. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveling. Mr. Flynn was an avid fan and supporter of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and New England Patriots. He was the father of Richard L. Jr. and his wife Evelyn M. of Townsend, grandfather of Katherine C. and Jacob D., both of Townsend, twin brother of Robert and his wife Jacqueline of Chelmsford, formerly of Concord, and brother of John of Concord, Margaret Wright of Concord, and the late William. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral will be held on Friday, April 29th from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center, at 10 am followed by a funeral Mass at 11 am in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center. Burial with military honors will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord. Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home are Thursday, April 28th from 4 to 8 pm. Concord's Town Flag will fly at half-staff on Friday, April 29th in recognition of Mr. Flynn's service in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Contributions in his memory may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701. The Flynn family would like to thank Care Dimensions Hospice nurse Marjorie Rogers and Nicole Fox for their kindnesses and professional help. Arrangements are under the care of the Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
