Obituary

Dick O'Keeffe of Everett Gardens in Concord passed away quietly on Wednesday, March 14, just one month short of his eightieth birthday. Dick was born in Milton, Mass, the son of John and Leah (Hurley) O'Keeffe. A graduate of Milton High School, Dick then went into the Army and served a tour in Korea. After his discharge he attended Boston University, earning a B.S., and went on to a career in industrial sales. In 1980, Dick left that career behind as he moved to Concord and bought Atkinson Frame Shop, which he ran for over 25 years, getting to know Concord's many artists and residents. All kinds of people walked in and out of his shop on Sudbury Road, and he enjoyed becoming acquainted with each and every one. Dick was an avid sailor and a lifetime member of the Squantum Sailing club on Boston Harbor, where he loved to sail small single handed racing craft. A keen devotee of classic Jazz, Dick enjoyed spending many Wednesday evenings knocking elbows with good friends and listening to jazz at the Colonial Inn. Recently he took an interest in his own Irish Heritage, and made contact with a distant cousin in Co. Cork, Ireland. Over the past 5 years he has twice visited his cousin Johnny Harte and his family there, each time being feted as the long lost relative he is. These visits were a high point of Dick's recent years. A classic Gentleman of the old order, a true friend to all who knew him and a good man with a joke, Dick had a very good sense of humor, and a sharp incisive mind. He will be missed by his many friends here and in Ireland. Dick leaves a Daughter Andrea Benedetto and her husband Michael of Plymouth, Adele Barry and her husband Michael of Marshfield, and a son Michael of Maynard, and four Grandchildren. Dick's many Grateful friends will gather for an afternoon of remembrances and his favorite jazz at the Colonial Inn in Concord Center on Sunday the 1st of April, in the Forge Lounge at 2pm. All his friends are invited to share in the celebration of his life, and the thanks for his friendship. Arrangements under the care of Dee Funeral Home, Susan M. Dee and Charles W. Dee, Jr., Funeral Directors. To share a remembrance in the online guest book, please visit www.deefuneralhome.com
