Rhoda Gubernick was born in 1952 in New York City to Charles and Tessie Gubernick. She grew up in the boroughs of New York and Bay Shore on Long Island. She got her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Goddard College.

Rhoda at heart was a cheerful soul, who above all loved to learn. She was a voracious consumer of knowledge of all kinds - she was interested in everything. Also, she was a deep thinker who stood up strongly for her opinions.

Rhoda was brave and exceptionally ethical. She was a fierce feminist from an early age, and a proud American liberal. Rhoda was a firm believer in food and diet as medicine.

She was a spiritual seeker, compassionate, and horrified at the state of the world. She loved her cat and her husband.

She was a pianist (she taught piano, sometimes), and a composer as well. Her husband recalls her sitting down at a piano in a hotel lounge and playing for herself and whoever was present.

She was a practicing jeweler for many years. Rhoda worked in the publishing business for many years, including time as the Assistant Art Director for the Atlantic Magazine

She was a collector of beautiful things, fabrics, ceramics, and was a lover of art and brought beauty into our home.

She loved to walk, and thought there should be picnic tables for everyone, in natural places.  One could say she was a legendary library user.

Rhoda died on May 29, 2025 from cancer.

She is survived by David Covert of Arlington, Massachusetts, her husband of 39 years; her brother Frank Gubernick of Tucson, Arizona; her sister Phyllis Franklin of Clearwater, Florida; along with 8 nieces and nephews.

Entombment at Forest Hills Cemetery in Boston was private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Rhoda's honor may be made to Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation .
