It is with deep sadness that the family of Raymond A. Warren wishes to convey his passing to his friends.
Raymond Arthur Warren, 93, of Acton, MA, passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
Ray was born on March 7, 1928 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to Joseph and Beatrice (Jennings) Warren. He graduated from Mt. Clemens High School in 1946. Ray then enlisted in the US Navy and was trained as a naval aviator. After injuring his back during a training mission, Ray was discharged from the navy and began his studies as an electrical engineer. After graduation from University of Detroit with a BS in Electrical Engineering, he was hired by General Electric and was located in Syracuse, NY where he met a young nurse named Jean Marie Clark. This was the beginning of a more than 65 year love story. They married on June 30, 1956 and welcomed six children into their family with an abundance of love and laughter.
Ray's budding career with GE as a computer hardware engineer, had the growing family relocating several times as his division was bought by Honeywell, Control Data Corp., and Bull. This involved several stints in New York, Oklahoma, Arizona, and finally settling in Acton, Mass. Throughout all the moves, family came first as Ray balanced providing a stable home life with his challenging technology career. Ray juggled scouting events and dance recitals with swimming in the backyard pool to keep the family busy and happy.
Ray was the proud father and grandfather to seven Eagle Scouts. He was an avid photographer, documenting each trip and recording every special event of his family's lives. Ray and Jean were a talented dance couple, clearing the dance floor at family weddings as their children watched in amazement.
As the children left the home, Ray pursued his passions for travel, golf, music, photography, and finance. He served as a board member, treasurer and president of the Audubon Hills Community Corp. for 11 years. Ray loved listening to and playing big band era music and was a member of several community bands, playing both the clarinet and saxophone. He followed the stock market daily, for his own amusement. He loved mathematics, and even re-taught himself calculus in his mid-80s so as to better help his grandchildren with their homework. Over the last several years, he spent time converting all of his old movies and photos to digital format and creating photographic memory books for the family. Ray truly enjoyed family celebrations, where all of the family gathered to share memories and laughter at the often embellished stories of growing up in the Warren household.
Ray is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Jean Marie (Clark) Warren; sons Raymond J. Warren (Mary) of McKinney, TX, Matthew S. Warren (Ann) of Sudbury, MA, Paul Warren (Arden) of Sterling, MA, Brian Warren (Carol) of Northborough, MA; daughters Therese Magnussen (Dan) of Stow, MA and Christine Bonica (John) of Acton, MA; grandchildren Matthew C. Warren (Kelly) of Tucson, AZ, Joseph C. Ray is also survived by a nephew, Joseph Warren (Jane) of White Bear Lake, MN; nieces Patricia Warren, Lynda May Moran, and Angela Sim, and many great nieces and great nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Beatrice (Jennings) Warren, and his older brothers, Joseph Warren and Sidney Warren.
Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Mass celebrating Ray's life on Monday, May 24th at 10:00 am at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, 1 Percival Street, Maynard, MA. Burial will follow with U.S. Navy military honors at Woodlawn Cemetery, 104 Concord Road, Acton, MA. A reception for family, friends, and neighbors will be held following the burial at the Audubon Hills Community Center, Audubon Dr., Acton, MA.
