On Thursday April 14th, 2022, Raymond "Ray" Thomas Schofield, 87, a Westford resident, passed away at Whitney Place in Northborough, MA following a period of declining health.
Ray was born in Providence, Rhode Island on May 22, 1934 to his late parents Thomas and Elsie (Bailey) Schofield. He spent his youth in Fiskeville, a small village in the southwest corner of Cranston, RI. He graduated from Coventry, RI High School in 1951 and continued his education at Rhode Island School of Design in Providence.
Mr. Schofield served honorably as a Specialist in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. After being discharged, he began a long career at General Radio Company in West Concord, MA spanning 33 years.
As his family grew, he moved to Westford, Massachusetts in 1961, where he resided for the remainder of his life.
Ray is survived by his four sons, Mark and wife Dale of Northborough, MA; Todd and wife Marissa of South Riding, VA; Eric and wife Cindy of Auburn, MA and Ross and wife Jessica of Williamsburg, VA as well as 9 grandchildren: Eric, Kyle, Grace, Sophia, Brandon, Connor, Jake, Eden and Angel and 2 great grandchildren: Jack and Graham and also his nephew Robert Schofield and niece Patricia (Schofield) Goldstein. He was predeceased by his brother, John Schofield formerly of Concord, MA.
Ray spent most of his career as an architect and engineer. When he wasn't at work, he could be found at his drawing table or in the back yard tending to his collection of daylilies or his menagerie of domestic and wild animals. He was a loving pet owner and really enjoyed having a dog or cat close by, but truly enjoyed the sound of his beloved parakeets.
At Ray's request, no services are planned and burial will be private at the Greenwood Cemetery in Coventry, RI.
We do ask that in lieu of cards and flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association by visiting www.alz.org or your local Humane Society.
