Raymond L. Demers, 88, of Concord, died Monday, November 14, 2011 at Wingate of Sudbury. He was the husband for 63 years of Marilyn G. Demers. Born in Plainfield, he was the son of the late Leo P. and Jennie E. (Patrick) Demers. He attended Plainfield public schools and graduated from North Adams High School in 1941. During World War II, he was a Sergeant in the United States Army and served in New Guinea and the Philippines. He attended Southwestern University in Memphis, Tennessee, New England Conservatory of Music and Berklee School of Music, both in Boston. For thirty-six years, prior to his retirement in 1985, he was an Electrical Engineer at GenRad Corporation in Concord. He was also a teacher of guitar for twenty-five years. A longtime resident of Concord, he was a member of the GenRad Glee Club, Harvard Sportsman Club, Men's Choral Group, Our Lady Help of Christians Choir and enjoyed travel and photography. In addition to his wife, Marilyn, he is survived by 8 children, Jacqueline Evans and her husband Richard of Acton, Brian Demers and his wife Kim of Maine, Gary Demers and his wife Luann of Lunenburg, Paula Demers of Maynard, Rita Mercer of Ashburnham, Diane Telford and her husband William of Littleton, Katherine Ramsden and her husband Scott of Ashburnham and Robert Demers and his wife Candi of Concord, 1 sister, Antoinette Stevens of Rushville, New York, 21 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Madeline Powell and Harry Demers. Concord's town flag will fly at half-staff on Wednesday in recognition of Mr. Demers service to his country during World War II.
Cemetery:
Interment will follow the Mass in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Bedford Street, Concord where officers of the U. S. Army will present military honors.
Visitation:
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 15th from 4 to 7 PM in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center.
Service:
Funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 16th from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center at 9 AM followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish at St. Bernard\\\'s Church, Monument Square, Concord Center at 10 AM.
