Obituary

Priscilla Luppold Marquis died peacefully in the comfort of her Concord home on December 18, 2023. She was 84.

Priscilla was born and brought up in Lowell, Massachusetts graduating from Lowell High School in 1957. Priscilla was part of a large and happy family with nine children and George and Margaret Luppold the proud parents. A large family can be confusing and is met with many challenges. Some good and some not so good. But the family met all of these situations because each member of the family knew that they were loved and had the gift of positive self-esteem. Priscilla carried this gift of being loved with a positive self esteem as she entered the University of Massachusetts in 1957.

Priscilla met and married her husband Bob in 1959 and started out on their life journey together with a great deal of love and great deal of debt. With their few possessions and a questionable 1954 Plymouth they drove to Quantico, Virginia where Bob was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. Their first home was a small apartment in Quantico, Va. and the next 5 months were fun as we socialized with the other Marine officers. But then reality showed up when Bob was assigned a 15-month overseas tour in the Far East. Priscilla was pregnant as Bob left for the oversea duty. Our first son Robert was born while Bob was away. Certainly, a great challenge for Priscilla that she met with maturity and dignity.

Soon they left the Marine Corps and on to their civilian journey which started in Albany, New York where another son David and a new daughter Jennifer arrived to complete their family. Priscilla was very busy with the three young children and Bob was out trying to make enough money to keep things going in a positive direction. Our agreed goal was to bring up our three children, Robert, David and Jennifer so they felt our love for them and the gift of positive self-esteem. Priscilla's primary goal in life was to be married and to nurture her children so that they would have a great life. Priscilla was a great Mother which is a wonderful gift to children. Her children have flourished not by a status measurement but by being honest, well-educated and caring people.

Soon our family was transferred to Hartford, Connecticut for 18 months than off to Cherry Hill, New Jersey. We both agreed that we had too many moves in a short time. No more moves until the children are off to college. That was our lives for the next eighteen years. Priscilla was active during those years completing her college degree as an English major. She was a den mother and president of the local swim club. Priscilla enjoyed those years making many valuable and life- long friends. Those years came to an end when the children left for college and we moved to Chalfont, PA.

Priscilla was no longer an active mother as the children were starting on their life journeys. Priscilla used the eighteen months in Chalfont to reinvent herself by learning everything she could about the emerging world of computers. After our eighteen months in Pennsylvania we were transferred back to the Boston area and Priscilla was quickly hired by the Emerson Hospital in Concord, Massachusetts in the information systems department. She spent the next ten years at Emerson fixing all types of computer problems. Following her retirement from Emerson Hospital, she spent the next fifteen years working in a Real Estate lawyers office, helping with computer issues and other Real Estate issues.

Priscilla and her husband finally retired to spend more time with their children and grandchildren. They also traveled the world taking many trips to many parts of the world. Finally, as Priscilla and Bob aged they agreed that travel was physically beyond their ability and they stayed closer to home. Priscilla was happy with that decision as she could get back to what she did best in loving and nurturing her children (once a parent always a parent) and her grandchildren. She did this until she became too ill to continue and now her loving children took care of her.

I guess we could write a few more lines about her life but that would not serve any purpose. It is only necessary to say that Priscilla's primary goal was to be the best Mother and nurturer to her family and children so that they could have a great and productive life. She fulfilled her goal as measured by the success of her family and her children and her five grandchildren. Your children tell you who you are and by that measure Priscilla had a well-lived life. We all miss you and we were lucky to have you in our lives.

She leaves behind her husband of 64 years, Bob Marquis, along with their three children, Robert Marquis Jr. and his wife Ellen of Wayne, PA, David Marquis and his wife Ann of Dayton, OH and Jennifer Marquis and her husband John Hannen of North Brookfield, five grandchildren, Jane, Jack, Alex, Lauren and Ben, her brothers, David Luppold and his wife Christine of Concord, Jonathan Luppold and his wife Denise of Maynard, Jay Luppold and his wife Deborah of Concord, NH, her sisters, Martha Luppold of Shirley, Leslie Luppold of Concord and Linda and Yoram Samets of Burlington, VT, her sister-in-law, Carole Smith of Portland, Oregon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Deborah and Richard Luppold.
