Obituary

Peter P. Grad, 95, of Concord, died on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at home with Marylynn Boris, his loving companion of 29 years by his side. He was born and raised in Vienna, Austria, the only son of the late Berthold and Johanna (Deutsch) Grad. He proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II as a Forensic Chemist in the Hospital Corps from June 1944 to March 1946. Mr. Grad earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1949, attended the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, and received an honorary Master of Science degree from the New Bedford Institute of Technology in Massachusetts. Peter's work ethic was unwavering. As a Chemical Engineer, he was affiliated with several companies over the span of his successful career, including Rotron in Woodstock, NY, where he was the former CEO of the company branch in Holland. For five years, he was Manager at Papst Mechatronic Corporation in Newport, RI, and later was employed in international sales by Data Instruments, Inc. in Acton, MA. Instead of retiring, Peter began teaching Export Business at Middlesex College, and served as a consultant to colleagues in this professional realm. His work fed his love for traveling, especially in Europe, where he hiked the Alps in Switzerland, Dolomites in Italy, and many other high altitude peaks. Listening to classical music brought him joy and peace. Peter has been a Concord resident since 1988, and was a member of the Concord Democratic Town Committee and served on the Natural Resources Committee. In addition to his partner, Marylynn, he leaves his nephew, James Rosenblum of Orlando, FL, his niece, Rosie Bosco of Garberville, CA, and is also survived by Vanessa Boris of Newton, Neil Boris of Orlando, FL, and Evan Boris of San Rafael, CA. His sister, Liese Rosenblum, predeceased him. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to International Rescue Committee, P.O. Box 6068, Albert Lea, MN 56007-9847. Arrangements are under the care of the Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
