Pauline Cloutier "Polly" Eaton, 91, of Bedford, formerly of Concord, Acton, and Yarmouthport, MA and Naples, FL, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington. She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick W. Eaton who died in 2004.
Polly was born in Portland, Maine on September 25, 1926, the daughter of the late Wilfred Arthur and Alice Gertrude (Eagan) Cloutier. After graduating from Cony High School in Augusta with the class of 1944, she continued her education at Westbrook College in Portland and earned her B.A. in Education from Lesley University in Cambridge and an M.S. in Psychology from the University of Maine.
A passionate educator, Polly taught for the public school systems in Norfolk, VA; Augusta, ME; and Wauwatosa, WI. Then in 1965, she began teaching Third Grade at Alcott School in Concord where she also served as Language Arts Consultant for ten years. After a rewarding career, she retired in 1987 as a Psychologist for Concord's Elementary Schools.
For decades, Polly collected antique doll's houses and miniature rooms that have been profiled in publications and exhibited in various libraries and museums in Concord and on Cape Cod. While she enjoyed the collecting process, she derived more joy from sharing her collections with others. She was a member of the Miniature Book Society and, in recent months, was pleased to add a few new volumes to her miniature library.
A life-long knitter, Polly especially loved to knit patchwork sweaters and strawberry hats for babies and young children. She was an avid puzzler and not just on rainy days. A wooden puzzle, often pertaining to the season, was always underway in her den. In her mid-70s, she learned how to make Nantucket baskets and crafted dozens of them giving many away as gifts. She was also known for her chocolate chip cookies and the decorative tins in which they travelled.
Polly was a faithful parishioner at Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord, along with her late husband, Fred.
She leaves behind her devoted daughter, Susan Davis, and her husband, Charlie, of Acton, her two grandchildren, Charlotte and Oliver Davis, one sister, Jean C. Pratt of Augusta, ME, many nieces and nephews, and several treasured friends.
Relatives and friends will gather for visiting hours on Monday, July 16th from 5 to 7 pm in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 17th at 10 am in Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm Street, Concord. Private burial will be at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord.
